Granted, sometimes it can backfire, and you end up with an unwanted earworm nastier than a sinus infection (I am looking at you Miley Cirus). But sometimes, if you're lucky enough, you may end up discovering a few little pleasures amidst the sea of insipid music we often thread today.

This review sums up exactly what this album is about. I can't praise the review (and album, of course), enough.
I think people really mislabel My December. They tend to label it a "flop", but the ironic thing is that the album was never really designed to be a major pop success in the first place. I could understand them calling it that if it set out to do that, but it didn't. I think with her new album, since it's designed to be commercially successful, will prove to people that A) Kelly Clarkson is here for good in the music industry and B) As the author said, there is more to her than what meets the eye. |

And the next time she churns out a monstrous radio hit, much to the pleasure and relief of her record label, this listener will be reminded there is a lot more to Clarkson than great hooks and addictive pop beats. There's December.Great insight. I love this review! Thanks for posting, kellysmyidol!

Very nicely written. I like how it points out the strengths of the album but also notes that Kelly still has a lot more potential.
My December is a story from start to finish - one that Clarkson refuses to embellish for the simple sake of conformity. I love that! It's good to see someone (re)discover My December outside of the "turmoil" that it was originally surrounded in when it was first released. Take that drama away and you get a more objective listen. I think if more people can do the same, they'll realize what a gem this album is. |

I think MD is going to get more and more exposure the nearer it gets to releasing CD #4. You know it'll probably be brought up in every interview she does,
and she'll get to explain what MD was and wasn't suppose to be, and maybe more people might check it out...people that didn't think to buy it
before, because of the bad hype, or from people that didn't even know it existed in the first place.

There are things in this world that improve with age, like a fine wine.
So it took 16 months for the best, most on point, well-written review of "My December" to get written. Maybe someday, "My December" will also be recognized like a fine wine, after being holed up in RCA's wooden barrels fermenting for years. In the words of our New York City classic rock station, Q 104.3 (delivered by the voices of Carol Miller and Ian O'Malley), "My December" is the ultimate "off the back wall" album. Her words are blunt, but not overwhelming. Even when ripping apart a cheating ex and his new girlfriend, she maintains a semblance of manners. Her delivery is fierce, but never excessive. Her anger is palpable, but hardly ever accusatory. In fact, one of Clarkson's lyrical strength is the fact that she hardly ever points fingers, but instead chooses to take part of the blame on her own shoulders.Yes, in nine years, Kelly Clarkson will have the personal qualities to be President of the United States. ETA: This my 4,100th post (holy cow!). I wish it had been my 4,000th.
