I think it's a good thing Phillip's songs all sound similar every week. I mean, doesn't that show that he knows who he is as an artist and that he can take a song and successfully turn it into something that matches his style? Joshua turns everything into a gospel song each week, and all his performances sound the same, don't they? They do to me, and maybe more so with him than Phillip, for me. But that might be because I'm not a fan of Joshua's singing style.

I am a fan of Dave Matthews, and while some of his die hard fans don't like Phillip because he's basically a carbon copy of Dave (other than the tone of his voice), I think that's why I'm drawn to him. I like to hear him put a Dave/Phillip spin on every song. I do wish he would cut down on some of the Dave mannerisms (his performance style is exactly like Dave's), but other than that, I think he's great. I can't wait to hear some originals from him. I think in recent weeks, he's been able to be more himself and less like Dave, at least for me, but I think he's doing a great job.
And that is the reason I do not like Joshua either. They are both talented (They all are), but once again, IMO I just do not get excited for anyone who always sounds the same in every single song. There are just no surprises and it makes it really predictable. I cannot tell one performance of Joshua or Phillips apart from the other. Granted, I give them props for arranging/flipping any song into fitting their specific style.

I can see Phillip doing a lot better once he is out on his own. He has one of those voices/styles where singing original songs probably works better for him.
