I'm honestly shocked Jessica made the finale, only because I fully expected Phillip and Joshua to run away with it. I mean, Jessica was voted off once, right? Her voting block either got a lot bigger as the other contestants were eliminated or they just started voting like crazy after she was saved. Even though Joshua annoys me to no end, I think he deserved the finale spot over Jessica. I'm a big Phillip fan, but it might be best if he doesn't win in some ways - he might have more creative control over his career if he's not labeled an American Idol winner. I'm thinking back to Lee DeWyze's first post-Idol album, and it was pretty much crap - his pre-Idol stuff is so much better. I really hope that however it works out for Phillip, they let him do his thing and don't try to send him the pop route. I know a lot of DMB fans will buy his music as long as they don't make him sell out and go the poppy route (like they did to Lee).

Anyway, it should be an interesting finale...

I'm not a Phillip fan, but I agree with everything you said (as usual ).

I'll admit, I'm a little suspicious of Jessica's "save". I wouldn't put it past Nigel and Co. to create Jessica's "save" to give the show drama: "She was saved from elimination at 7th place only to come back and win it all!" Nah...I'm not a conspiracy theorist
I like to think they wouldn't rig the show like that, but it did seem kind of strange.  And if I ever find out that they DID rig it, I'll be so mad - they could've used the save on Skylar. smiley: devil

I don't think the save was that suspicious.   They learned from the year before not to use the save too fast.  On the other hand,  I think they only had 2 or 3 shows left to make a save this year and I think actually waited a few extra shows until the show when Jessica was left out.  I think at that point they thought she was a lot better than at least few of the others still voted on.   I think they did it the right way and used the save on someone they thought had a real chance to win it all and who they thought would not be undeserving of winning it all.   I also think they didn't want to be stuck being forced to use a save on someone they didn't think  deserved it and there were definitely some of them left that night.  There also was no way that they weren't going to use a save this year and they would rather use it on her than some of the others.  It would have destroyed the whole premise of the "save" not to use it.    Whether they would have used a save on, say, Hollie that night is an interesting question, given how often they criticized her.

The real issue for the show as some have already said is how the voting is structured.   I'm old enough to remember TV talent shows where the winner was based on a cheesy applause meter dependent on the studio audience.  Probably a lot more accurate in a bunch of ways, except there were typically only 3  or 4 contestants on each show.   But the modern TV talent show probably wouldn't hold anyone's attention without a national vote.  How else would you keep kids off of facebook and in front of a TV?   To think, my parents thought we watched too much TV, and now all kids do is spend their time revealing  their private lives on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.  Get back in front of the TV kids (forgive me Mom). Ok,  better yet,  go hiking or find a good book - on your Kindle of course.
