I can only speak for Iowa, but our capital city and one of the other large cities in the state are being evacuated. I heard you guys were getting a little break in the rain today which is good. It's supposed to start up again, isn't it? Not so good. I have a bunch of family a little north of Mason City (Osage area to be exact) and quite a few in Des Moines and the Waterloo area. I haven't heard anything from them so I'm assuming they're doing alright. I do know that the Osage people had been getting nailed earlier this week with tornadoes and the lovely Cedar River got them pretty good earlier this week. I've been trying to keep up with the happenings up there by checking the local papers and such. The other day the had this picture up that this woman just happened to catch which is so awesome and frightening at the same time.

My parents live there now (Sioux City)... It's frightening, especially after having a bunch of tornadoes hit our town here in Georgia last month... I find myself calling my folks every night, just to make sure nothing hit them, and they're alright.... they're farther West, but still.... And I have 2 aunts and uncles and literally like 50+ Cousins in Charles City, Iowa... Hoping they're doing alright as well...

We've had a lot of rain here in Michigan and a city a few hours from me had some major flooding today. I've been pretty lucky, just lots of storms and rain, but nothing too bad as far as flooding goes. I wish all those going through the flooding the best of luck, you're in my thoughts.

Water rushed into what's known as the Birdland area. An entire high school was inundated and covered with water.

But the worse has already passed there in Iowa. The River crested yesterday in Des Moines a little over 35 feet and is now rapidly falling. Things will continue to improve as long as we don't get a large Thunderstorm complex that forms which looks highly unlikely at this point. Everything will improve across most of the Upper Mississippi and the Ohio River Valleys. Speaking of that tornado, I know a couple people who were chasing that storm just before it dropped the tornado over the camp. They lost it in the hills and couldnt see it when it did hit the camp. Terrible it had to hit that camp though.

I'm almost positive it won't affect me, since I'm far enough away - but someone I work with is basically just getting ready for her house to be flooded.

Rivers are going down and areas are reopening. Cedar Rapids is still in bad shape. I hope we never have to go through this again in our lifetime.
