Rihanna, Paramore, Pink Join Lineup Of 2008 VMA Performers
New acts join already-announced performers Lil Wayne, the Jonas Brothers and Kid Rock.
By Chris Harris
In the past couple of weeks, Lil Wayne, the Jonas Brothers and Kid Rock have all been confirmed to take the 2008 Video Music Awards stage. But what about the ladies? Viewers concerned about the lack of female artists at the big show can stop worrying.
On Thursday (August 21), MTV revealed that pop-punk outfit Paramore, who've been nominated in the Best Art Direction in a Video and Best Rock Video categories, will be returning to the VMAs as performers, as will Pink and Rihanna, who could walk away with the Moonman for Best Female Video.
Paramore will rock the crowd with a lively performance of their hit "Misery Business," while Pink is set to perform her new single, "So What," and Rihanna will deliver her latest smash, "Disturbia." A list of presenters and additional acts gracing the VMA stage will be announced in the coming weeks. This year's awards show, which airs live September 7 at 9 p.m. from the legendary Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood, will be hosted by British comic and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" co-star Russell Brand.
Want to attend this year's VMAs? Well, here's your chance. One lucky viewer will be honored at this year's awards for the good work they've done. Think.MTV.com, MTV's online community for youth activism, is hooking up one young activist and shipping them off to Los Angeles to attend the VMAs, and it could be you. From now until August 22, all Think.MTV.com members who join the "Do Good. Go to the VMAs" group can enter to win two tickets to the VMAs, along with travel and hotel accommodations.

It has already been announced that comic Russell Brand, who caused a stir when he hosted the 2007 Brit Awards, will present the show.
The ceremony takes place at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on 7 September.
Nominations for the VMAs are being revealed on a weekly basis in the run-up to the awards.
Britney Spears, who made a shambolic "comeback" performance at last year's show, stands to win best female video for her hit single Piece Of Me. She faces competition from Jordin Sparks, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey and R&B star Rihanna.
Among the male artists vying for a coveted moonman statuette are Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Usher, TI and Flo Rida.
Categories to be announced in the coming weeks include video of the year, best rock video, best new artist and best dancing in a video.
On 6 November, the MTV Europe music awards take place at Liverpool's Echo Arena.

Russell Brand to host the MTV Video Music Awards
NEW YORK (AP) - MTV is staking its brand on a lesser-known one: Russell Brand.
The British actor and comedian will host this year's Video Music Awards, set to air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Sept. 7.
Brand recently co-starred in the Judd Apatow-produced comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and the Reese Witherspoon-produced fairy tale "Penelope." He is currently filming the Adam Sandler comedy "Bedtime Stories," slated for release later this year.

MTV hired Brand to be a VJ on its Britain-based show "Dance Floor Chart" after catching his comedy act in Edinburgh, Scotland. He also hosted a call-in show called MTV Select.
Brand has hosted numerous TV shows and events in the U.K., performed sell-out comedy gigs and written a best-selling memoir, "My Booky Wook," published last year.
His popular radio show, The Russell Brand Show, debuted two years ago in the U.K., and his TV show "Ponderland" was recently nominated by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in the "Best Comedy Programme" category.
In 2007, he continued on the comedy circuit with his hit show "Only Joking." He also made his feature film debut - in Britain, of course - in 2007's "St. Trinian's," opposite Colin Firth, Rupert Everett and Emily Watson.
Previous VMA hosts include Jack Black, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Chris Rock, Jimmy Fallon and Jamie Foxx.
As previously announced, the teen pop trio The Jonas Brothers will perform at the anything-can-happen event. Other performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.

Fans will get to executive-produce the show by helping choose this year's nominees and more.
The 25th annual awards will air live on MTV at 9 p.m. ET, and the show's host - as well as a list of performers, nominees and presenters - will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
This year's event will mark a first in VMA lore: The channel will be turning to its audience, asking them to executive-produce the big show. MTV will give fans a chance to decide this year's nominees, helping to create an awards show with the music they love (details on this will be coming soon!). MTV will be invading the movie studio's lot, presenting the awards show from soundstages, rooftops and city streets.
"With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop-culture moments that the VMAs are known for," said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, in a statement.
"Paramount is proud to serve for the first time as the host of the VMAs," said Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. "Combining the rich history of the Paramount lot with MTV's cutting-edge show will make this one of the year's most exciting and memorable events."
"The City of Los Angeles is proud to host the MTV Video Music Awards," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "There is no better place to hold one of the music industry's most exciting awards shows than right here in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world. We will roll out the red carpet for MTV and allow this awards show to not only recognize the best in music, but to also celebrate the creative talent and diversity our great city has to offer."

Jun 20, 2008, 04:44 PM | by Shirley Halperin
After a decade away, the MTV Video Music Awards are returning to Los Angeles. According to sources involved with the show, the 2008 ceremony will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Paramount Pictures lot in Hollywood. Expect executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic to make use of many of Paramount's stages, rooftops, and camera-ready city streets for the star-studded show, which will only air once in its original incarnation. The official press release goes out on Monday, with host and artist announcements to come soon after.
For the last 10 years, the VMAs have been somewhat nomadic, taking over Miami for two years (one of which was nearly washed out due to early Hurricane Katrina rains) and trying out Las Vegas in 2007, when the Palms Hotel and Casino played host. There were rumors that this time the awards would be held at the Shrine Auditorium, home to the Emmy Awards, but MTV opted for a bigger and perhaps less predictable space.
