That was some statement by Lisa Marie Presley.
I've watched a lot of the press coverage and the punditry, but that piece by the former LA Times music critic, to me, shows that all that superstardom when he was a kid was very damaging to him as an adult. He took rejection by the music-buying public very hard, obviously. The poor guy just had no frame of reference how to live life, and despite his success, he unfortunately seemed to live a mainly sad life. At least in death, millions have shown him the love he craved -- particularly those close to him who he probably thought didn't love him, but after his death, realized they did. Did anyone else immediately think of Kelly's "Save You" when they read this??Yes, I did. Very much on target. Also, the Jackson 5 song "The Love You Save" (may be your own) comes to mind. |

Thanks for posting, bix!
That was a powerful blog from Lisa Marie. I'm glad she decided to make that statement. I can't imagine how she must be feeling right now.
And that article by Robert Hilburn explained a lot to me. I've often wondered what triggered Michael's strong desire to alter his face. Now I know. I also know now for sure of his genuine affection for children. One thing that struck me the most among the many things I've read or seen on tv was the part on last night's dateline... when that lady from Ebony (I think) talked about Michael being nervous premiering the Moonwalk. She said that when Michael left the stage, he wasn't sure if he nailed it. But then a kid approached him and told him that he was great. And I think that made Michael happy. And he said that children always say the truth. It is always sad when Hollywood or fame can screw someone's life. One person that came quickly to my mind was Karen Carpenter and how her anorexia started. And I hope this doesn't come off as inappropriate in this discussion... But I really can't help but think about Kelly, and the reasons why I love and admire her... for consciously fighting to maintain a strong sense of herself, and doing what she needs to do along the way... staying out of the limelight, or glitz and glitter of Hollywood... not reading press about her... living in her hometown, far away from the paparazzis... keeping close to her family and closest friends who are not in awe of her, but instead keep her grounded... What she's doing is a tough job! The pressures of the limelight and the media are enourmous. |

Candee - Not inappropriate at all! In fact, that was very well-said
She is a rare gem in the current industry in that she does what she can to stay
grounded and not turn into the lost, untouchable soul that many other celebs become.
The impact MJ's passing has made (on the news, tv, in the surge in sales of his music, etc) is just mind-boggling. Last time I can recall anything of this magnitude with a celebrity passing was when Princess Diana died in 1997. I'm surprised no one has mentioned any sort of funeral arrangements (at least that I've heard). Haven't read the article Bix posted yet, will comment later. |

I agree ~ not inappropriate at all. It's completely understandable for our minds to turn to her right now ~ be it admiration for her strength and
individuality or even imagining her death.
After reading the article, I wondered what MJ could have accomplished if he had KC's sense of self. But then everything happens for a reason and maybe he wouldn't have done all he did because he wouldn't have had such a need for approval or love. My mother is shocked, SHOCKED about the news coverage. She can't believe it's still being discussed, lol. I've tried to explain it, but she still doesn't get it. *sigh* I compared it too to Princess Diana and she said, "Get out!" haha. |

cookbooklady wrote: My family and friends do not understand either. They say "Oh he was @!+#*% up anyway and people die everyday" Hum yeah. But I do understand, even if I am not a fan. He brought joy to people with his music, he grew up in the public eye so people want to know what happened. I am surprised no funeral plans have been mentioned either. It's usually quick, isn't it? Between three days and one week after passing away. |

Today I started hearing the jokes. Not towards me, luckily for that person. "I'm sorry to hear about Michael Jackson..I know how much he touched you
as a child" ...........I really got pissed off, and might have said some choice words because people just don't freaking get it. If you didn't
like the guy or his music, FINE. Keep your idiotic comments to yourself and respect the fallen.
It doesn't matter to me what he did, or what he was accused of. I don't care how he looked. It's about the MUSIC and what he did for the world of music that is inspiring and incredibly respectable. When asked by a couple friends if I was saddened to hear the news, I thought wow...who wouldn't be? As a person who loves music, even though I am younger and wasn't around during his superstardom, I can't understand who wouldn't be affected by this. Maybe not very drastically, but at least in the slightest. We did lose an icon, and as that article stated...he does have a place beside the Beatles and Elvis. That's what I truly believe. |

People are still trying to deal with it so it's understandable. He was an icon ( Much like Elvis was) so of course people are going to talk about it for
quite some time.I can only imagine what it was like when Elvis died.Insider and ET sicken me.They take things too far.Was their drugs involved?? MJ last

I can't get enough of the coverage. He was a great entertainer and it should be celebrated, discussed and remembered. You may not like him, but in some
way, the things he did made a difference in your life.
Goes back to watching the VH1 MJ special. |

I went into FYE to get my friend some graduation presents. And as soon as i walked in their was a huge paper right in the front that said "We have sold
out rapidly of Michael Jackson cds, dvds, posters, etc...." and i looked around they literally had 2 cds left of them. People are buying his stuff like
crazy now!
I heard Black Or White today on the radio and blasted it. |
