You know, I'm nto sure why some of you only consider IDNHU a "minor hit".... maybe by Kelly's usual standards it is, but the song was still pretty massive on radio. It lasted the usual three months time for a single, and unlike a lot of artists, Kelly's songs thrive on both Pop radio AND Hot AC radio, so in that case IDNHU is much more successful than a lot of songs on the pop charts.

Also, I'm inclined to agree, IDNHU is the better song over WUIV, Katy just has the better branding right now.... she really utilized that hiatus Kelly had to take over Kelly's status on radio.

I've been really listening and comparing IDNHU, LS and WHIV the last couple days and I think Long Shot is superior to the other two (when comparing Katy written songs). I do agree with above that the hiatus Kelly had may have stalled her momentum on radio a bit (if her hiatus was referring to the month or so of overseas promo). If Kelly had spent that time pounding her second single with North American promo during that time, who knows how much higher the song would have gone?

WUIV isn't superior to IDNHU at all. It's Katy's last chance of having a hit for her debut, the rest of her album isn't single worthy unlike Kelly's. The only difference is that Katy actually promoted the song on the biggest platform there is while Kelly's management forgot about the US and sent her off to Europe to do promo rounds there and IDNHU was sold on her name alone over here. Idol can really make or break your song. It may not *ALWAYS* work, but I strongly believe that if Kelly had performed her single on the finale, it would have been a lot bigger than it was. It was #12 on iTunes the night BEFORE of the finale, so just imagine how big of a jump it would have had. Even the other appearances she did in the states would have probably had a bigger impact because the majority of the people would have already been aware of the song. Plus, once you hit top 10 on iTunes, you start going up (if the song is popular on radio) because the name of your single is featured on the main page of iTunes.

The subject matter doomed this song plain and simple. And IDNHU is not as catchy and I thought, the production could have been harder or something. Something was definitely missing for me.

I will say Waking Up In Vegas is a catchier song and better put together IMO. But whatever Already Gone is next, no need to worry about the past.

i've said this before and i will say it again. IDNHU was the PERFECT second single, and no other song would have been better in my opinion. it's classic kelly.

Kind of random, but I'm pretty sure it was you that said awhile back that you thought Kelly would be promoting IDNHU still on her upcoming TV spots. Do you still think that?

Personally, I can't see them even bothering with IDNHU if it barely moved at all from the SYTYCD performance....

Yes, I still think she's performing IDNHU. The GMA concert airs more than 1 song though, so she's definitely doing AG there.

Well I'll be severely disappointed if that's the case.... by this time next week who knows if IDNHU will even be in the top twenty of pop radio. It's falling pretty hard right now. Not to mention, as I said before, that digital sales have remained stagnant for the song after pretty much every promo event she's done.

Yea but IDNHU keeps selling 30k every week, which is still pretty respectable. At this point, I think the smartest thing to do would be for them to squeeze out any kind of potential the song has until it gives out, plus, the summer is just getting started and for them to just slow things down out of the blue when the song is (still) getting airplay (regardless of the fact that it's falling, it's still constantly being played on Z100, as well as other big stations) so the more she sells, the better. MJ's songs only raised this week before the memorial service but they'll start falling again and INDHU will (hopefully) raise back, at least to the top 50. I don't think AG is even being added this month and IDNHU is still her current single so it'd only make sense. AG isn't getting ANY airplay in the states either, so it'd be a waste of promotion. Like I said, I'm sure she'll sing it at GMA but, I think the main focus will still be IDNHU. At least I kind of hope it is, I think ultimately, the song has potential to end up selling over 600k copies so why stop?

If the song's not moving digital copies OR albums, then why regurgitate the song again for the general public if they don't seem to care about it? I think it'd be in the best interest of the ALBUM to start performing Already Gone, to further show the diversity of All I Ever Wanted. AG should be, by all logic, the real seller for the album. MLWSWY and IDNHU were a bit too similar to really convince people to buy the album. And personally, I'm not even a huge fan of IDNHU myself.... >_>

I'm starting to think that Kelly may have an identity crisis on her hands. I don't like that they seem to be trying to market her as a Katy Perry bubblegum artist, when the general public already knows her as the boybashing heartbreak Pat Benatar she is. I'd kill to have another BTHE or Never Again right now.

But anyway, I don't really think it matters at this point.. I've been hearing IDNHU on the radio a ton lately in the Boston area.. as far as people are concerned here it's a pretty big hit. I guess it depends on what area you live in.. oh well. Can't please everyone. I'm pumped for AG.

I actually disagree somewhat. I think putting out AIEW as a "pure" pop album was the best thing Kelly could have done for her career in the long run. Simply because it's not in her best interest to be continually niched as a "boybashing" pop/rock singer. As we have seen, the public's appetite for that has somewhat passed. Kelly needs to sell the public her versatility as an all-around sing-anything artist, because that is one of her main strengths. And it is what will allow her to weather the various trends and still come out with an intact career and fanbase. Longevity is what I'm thinking is best served here.

Ironically, the album AIEW is pretty diverse as far as pop is concerned, but I agree with you that they started out with the first two singles being fairly typical Kelly fare. Now people just need to be exposed to the rest of the variety. Once they are, I'm convinced the buying will swing back up.

I mean, I couldn't think of ANY well-founded reason....even so the song did pretty well...just think of sober's performance and you'll get an instant smile =)

woah it's falling down pretty hard on the pop chart now =( Time for Already Gone before everything is too late RCA. Same situation with Avril The Best Damn Thing and Xtina B2B. They killed the momentum with waiting around too long after their 2nd single didnt do as well as the huge 1st singles. Both of their 3rd single flopped and it was the end of the eras for both girls, the difference is that they already passed the 1 million mark by that time. Get with it RCA!! And if she's really still singing IDNHU on these upcoming appearance ... hmm something is def wrong on her camp. So far, her new management has not impressed me at all, The Firm was working it on the promo side as soon as she switched. But again, Kelly wasnt happy with the Firm. It's so hard to talk about commercial success now, cuz Kelly herself doesnt seem to want it.
