My review is so long I'm going to split it up into 3 parts:
1. Lead up to meet and greet - most of you will probably skip this
2. Meet and Greet time
3. Concert
Part 1 Hanging Out at the Fair and Meet and Greet Anticipation:
My day started at 3 a.m., partly because I was excited and couldn't sleep and partly because I still need to get some things ready for my meet and greet with Kelly. I had some CDs that I had bought a long time ago with the intention of giving them to Kelly the next time I met her, but I wasn't exactly sure where they were so I had to look for those. Thankfully, I was able to find everything I needed. I also burned a couple of CDs of videos and mp3s of live performances from one of the artists that the CDs were from. I realized I probably would not get a whole lot of time to talk to Kelly so I also wrote her a note with a little description of everything I was giving her and pointing out some of my favorite tracks.
Before I knew it, it was a little after 10 and almost time for LurkAzusa to pick me up to go to the show. I was running late and I ended up forgetting a bunch of stuff, it was a good thing LurkAzusa asked if I had both sets of mics because I had forgotten hers and we had to turn back around to get them. I later realized I had also forgotten the 2 CDs I had burned for Kelly and my cell phone, whoops.
The trip went pretty smoothly, not really much extra traffic even though it was a holiday weekend. When we arrived I hunted around for the will call window where I was supposed to pick up my meet and greet pass an hour before the show. I definitely wanted to make sure I didn't miss it because I couldn't find where I needed to go. As we entered the fairgrounds I spotted the will call window right next to the entrance so that was taken care of.
I wandered around the fair for awhile checking out the various exhibits and merchandise booths. The theme for the fair was "Music Mania", so while we were going through the fine arts exhibit LurkAzusa and I of course had to look to see if anyone had done a portrait of Kelly, haha. No luck. The exhibit was in a building close to the stage where the concert was going to be and I saw someone walking around the stage with a guitar, they were probably doing soundcheck. There were signs up in front of the doors leading out towards the stage that said "Restricted Area" so I didn't investigate any further.
After wandering around we just went back over near the grandstand and chilled for a bit. One of the things that fascinates me about fairs are the weird concoctions that the food vendors think of that you never see anywhere else. Just for kicks I'll share some of the items being sold at Totally Fried:
1. A fried chicken breast filet sandwich with honey and raspberry sauce Krispy Kreme donuts for the buns
2. A sandwich of chocolate chip cookies, cream cheese, jam, and a fried chicken breast filet
3. Fried frog legs
4. Zuchinni dog, pretty much a corn dog put with the hot dog inside a zuchinni before it's fried in the dough.
5. Fried S'mores
6. Fried Frog Legs
7. Fried Avocado
I think my arteries clogged just by walking past that place.
Since I was anxious about getting my meet and greet pass I went to see if I could pick it up early. Luckily the passes were already there, the lady at the window asked me if I was excited and of course I told her I was (duh, it's Kelly how can you not be excited, haha). I looked at the instructions on where I was supposed to go for the meet and greet and I noticed the time said 6:20 p.m. which is actually 10 mins earlier than the fan club e-mail said to pick up the meet and greet passes at will call, hmmmm.
Around 5:30 I decided to go find where I was supposed to wait for the meet and greet. The instructions said to go the stage left entrance, which I knew from the audience perspective was on the far right side. There were several entrances to the venue and the one that seemed furthest to the right had no line anywhere around it, but the next one over had a pretty long line. That confused me where to go so I asked several different people that worked there, I even went back to the window where I picked up my meet and greet pass, but everyone seemed totally clueless when I told them I was looking where to go for the meet and greet and I had to go to the stage left entrance, the one furthest to the right.
While I was talking to one of the guys working at the concert venue to see where I was going I ran into a guy who was also looking for the meet and greet. The event staff guy told us to go to the horse something or other and we just gave him this confused look. He asked us if we had ever been there for a race before, nope. So we headed back to that first entrance that there was no line around and hoped that it was the right one and commiserated about how no one seemed to have a clue about the meet and greet. We asked the guy guarding the entrance if we were at the right spot and he didn't know. Apparently out of all the people working there he was the one that hadn't been working while the fair was going on, great.
After standing there for awhile I saw Brian come out from the backstage area, at least if we were in the wrong spot we would probably see everyone go backstage when it was time for the meet and greet. Since we had a lot of time to kill I swapped Kelly stories with the other fan club member waiting for the meet and greet. He told me last time he had a meet and greet "Crying Girl" had messed up his chance to go last, lol. I told him my friend was in that meet and greet, too and the same thing happened to her. He asked me how many times I had met Kelly and I admitted I didn't really know, but the last time had been 4 years ago. I explained most of the times I had met her were in between when her first and second albums came out, before she really blew up.
We talked about what we were going to do in our pictures with Kelly and he said he wanted Kelly to "Captain Morgan" him and I had no clue what he meant. He demonstrated planting one leg down and leaning on it like the picture on a bottle of Captain Morgan, haha. Eventually a few more people came and then the gate was finally opened a little after 6:20 p.m. to let us down near the backstage entrance where Brian was waiting for us. He started giving the usual instructions, but this time he asked if anyone had their own cameras to use for their picture with Kelly. Someone mentioned that the e-mail said we couldn't use our own camera, Brian told us that they were working on getting that changed. He mentioned something about them not being able to upload the pictures until the next stop they made which was in NYC, I don't really understand why that was, but whatever. I was glad I had my own camera with me to get a decent quality photo.
After the talk Brian told us that nothing was going to happen until 6:50 p.m. so we could go away and come back if we wanted to. This one guy wasn't too happy because he had just left the dinner at the Turf Club to get to the meet and greet, the food was served at 6:19 p.m. He ate two bites and scrambled down for the meet and greet, that dinner was part of a ticket package for the best seats for the concert so that really sucks that package was expensive.
So there was more time to kill, another fan club member joined me and the guy I had been talking to earlier. She told this story about how she once saw Kelly at a Keith Urban concert when they were both in line to buy a drink. She asked Kelly for a picture and then everyone swarmed Kelly and she felt so bad for doing that. I don't blame her at all for wanting the picture, I mean that could have been the only time she ever got the chance to meet her so of course you want to go for that opportunity when she's right there. I'm repeating this story here just to maybe keep this in mind if you happen to see Kelly out and about to keep in mind that asking for a picture or an autograph or calling out her name could end up causing a scene and make the situation very difficult for Kelly if there are a lot of people around. Of course it is perfectly natural to get excited and not take these things into account, but if you do manage to keep your wits about you it would probably be a good idea to gauge the situation before you approach Kelly. (I know, easy for me to say because I've met her before).

Tbh, I didn't understand what she was singing and had
to look up the lyrics.
