The reality is hitting for Jeanne Taylor, mother of FOX-TV "American Idol" contestant Kelly Clarkson of Burleson.
Taylor was in California Aug. 3-Aug. 8, the week the contestants were whittled to five during the Big Band competition.
"We had gone into the studio area and Kelly called on my cell phone and said that we were supposed to be on the side (of the stage)," Taylor said.
"When she came to get us, she was already dressed up for the show. I heard screaming, and it was her fans. They had seen her coming. That's when it finally sank in that they were screaming for her. This is really happening."
Taylor met the fan who jumped up on stage with Clarkson as she finished her song a few weeks before. She also met two of Clarkson's youngest fans.
"They gave me a poster and wanted me to give it to Kelly," Taylor said.
"They had their names and addresses on the back."
Clarkson's mother was in California for what has been called her daughter's best performance so far. She sang the Bette Midler song "Stuff Like That There."
"I loved it," Taylor said.
"You can tell when she really likes the song and it was cute the way she put things together . . the shoulder movements, the dress, and styling her hair for that (big band) period. She was so excited we were out there."
Taylor said it was "fun and interesting" to see the show in person.
"Christina's (Christian, American Idol contestant) father sat to my right and he kept patting my leg because I was sitting there wrenching my hands," Taylor said.
Clarkson's brother, Jason, even got some camera time.
"The producer jumped up on stage during a break and asked who had come the farthest to see the show and someone from our group pointed out Jason, who came from Alaska," Taylor said.
Clarkson's brother ended up introducing Christian Christian as she sang ""Glory of Love."
If Clarkson is voted into the final two, Taylor said she's jetting out to California for the final show at the Kodak Theater Sept. 3-4.
"I told her I was coming out there," Taylor said,
"And my boss here knows that and is OK with that. This is a once in a lifetime thing."
