Clarkson lends hand to student's Katrina benefit
When Katie Egan, a junior at Southwestern High School in Hazel Green, decided she wanted to help victims of this year's hurricanes, she turned to Meijer's supermarkets, eBay and "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson.
Meijer stores had 3-by-4-foot promotional posters of Clarkson - and one in Michigan gave them to Egan. "I e-mailed a bunch of Meijer stores and I was lucky enough to have one reply that was willing to help me," says Egan. "I was able to get in contact with a close friend of Kelly Clarkson's who took the posters to her to get them autographed."
Egan, working with the American Red Cross, is auctioning eight of these signed posters off on eBay (search for "Clarkson" and "Red Cross"). Winning bidders, who can make checks out to the Red Cross and will get a donation receipt, will also get a photo of Clarkson signing the posters for verification.
Her auction started at $25, and the first poster was at $182.50 with a day left before closing. Egan says she plans to auction the remaining posters off throughout December, as potential holiday presents.
