A friend of mine who's a huge fan of country music just sent me a link to a live performance of "So Small". I'm not bashing Carrie, but IMO, the song is just average. It's not horrible, it's just very banal. It just sounds a lot like every other ballad on country/pop radio. I have no idea if she wrote it, but the lyrics (at least the ones that I can make out) are your usual "oh, love is so great and the cure for all ills" platitudes/cliches. JMO.
ETA: I typed up my post before Coolchick1985's post. Thanks for that link. |

thanks for the link coolchick.
Its a little blah, i guess you stick to what your good at. Its not really much of a change from SH. But as its Carrie im sure it will go #1 on the country charts. |

Heres the lyrics:
What you got if you aint got love? The kind that you just wanna give away It's okay to open up Go ahead and let the light shine through I know it's hard on a rainy day You wanna shut the world out And just be left alone Don't run out on your faith Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing Is just a grain of sand What you've been out there searching for forever, Is in your hands When you figure out love is all that matters, after all It sure makes everything else Seem so small It's so easy to get lost inside A problem that seems so big, at the time It's like a river that's so wide It swallows you whole While you're sittin round thinking about what you can't change And worryin' about all the wrong things Time's flying by, moving so fast You better make it count, cause you can't get it back Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing Is just a grain of sand What you've been out there searchin for forever Is in your hands Oh, When you figure out love is all that matters after all It sure makes everything else Seem so small Sometimes that mountain you've been climbing Is just a grain of sand What you've been out there searchin for forever Is in your hands Oh, When you figure out love is all that matters after all It sure makes everything else Oh it sure makes eveyrthing else Seem so small |

Ok hello...this is just ONE song from the album of what... 13 to 14 songs? Maybe wait to hear a few more songs before you judge. JMO.

As a whole, it seems to me that country artists don't change much from album to album - they tend to stay with what works. That's why Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, sound the same now as they did back then.
"So Small" sounds nice, Carrie's voice is great, of course, but I wish the lyrics displayed more personality or a story, similar to her previous singles. I think she needs that to draw people in. |

Definitely add Kenny Chesney to that list, LOL!! And a complete ditto to what you said. But of course no final judgement from me until AT LEAST we get a studio version of this and a few other new songs... |

Country artists definitely tend to release the same kind of stuff over and over again. Those lyrics are kinda lame, but a pretty typical country ballad so it'll probably be a big hit. I'm not sure how I feel about the song. I'll have to hear a better version before I decide.

I'm in love with the "Some Hearts" album. The Night Before has to be my favorite song, just because I see how it really does pertain to real life. I have some friends who graduated this year and are about to head off to college, and this song sort of reminds us about moving on with our lives.
Anyway, I cannot WAIT for this new album. |

I like it. It's not my favortie Carrie song, but it's pretty. And I'm sure it's going to do well on radio.
I'll wait to make a firm decision when I hear the studio version. |

I think it's a pretty good song...BUT I don't think it is up to par with DFTRM or Wasted.
