I have to agree that Josh, IMO, is very talented but my point was that talent is subjective! And, no, Josh nor Bucky are wildly successful but both are doing just fine for themselves (3 top 5 singles, including one #1, for Josh with over 800k sold is nothing to sneeze at. That's far better than most of the idol also rans manage to do - and also far better than alot of country - or non country - acts manage to do). Bucky just started but he's about to get his first top 5 single and he's still hanging in there in the Billboard 100 for album sales. So both, not wildly successful, but doing ok for themselves (I'm pretty sure Bucky will get a BNA nomination at the CMA's (and other country awards) this year, just as Josh did his year (he lost to Gretchen Wilson). Anywho, the scale between wildly successful and flop is vast indeed hahah But, anywho, I get what you are saying lindzzzz!
I agree that many artists - especially country artists - have a sound. Is this Carrie's sound? I mean, one of the things about Some Hearts was that it sampled alot of different sounds.
Personally, I think this is her weakest single yet. If this song had been on Some Hearts, honestly, do you think it would have even been a contender to be a single?
Anywho -I'm sure it'll do fine on radio and I'm sure this isn't going to be an album killer. I'm willing to bet there will be atleast 2 songs on the cd that are far better than this - country is infamous for playing it safe with the first single (JTTW was the weakest single during the SH era IMO and it was the lead single - AND it did just fine) and then hitting hard with the 2nd and 3rd single.

But Mel, how do you know she's just doing what she's told?
Actually, she pretty much said this in an interview - if someone told her her writing wasn't good enough, the song wouldn't go on the cd. (not an exact quote, but a paraphrase). In other words, if someone told her no to a song, she wouldn't fight for it, but rather do as she is told.
I know alot of people took that as a dig at Kelly but my personal thought was that Carrie wants this, however she has to take it, and she's going to play the game and walk the line to assure that she doesn't 'blow' it. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, not at all. I just think at some point she has to stand for something or she may find herself in a corner she doesn't want to be in.

Right on
