It's been said that good things come to those who wait...and it happened in Houston for me. It was all thanks to the goodness of Melissa's
(KidKellyRocks) heart and her thinking of me. She was able to work some magic and get a couple of meet & greet passes for the show. We were still at the
hotel last night getting ready to head to the Verizon when my cellphone rang. It was Melissa; she asked if I was going to the show. She had a couple of
passes, and she wanted to give one of them to me!!! After asking her a half dozen times if she was serious, I told her of course I wanted one of them! We
made plans to meet up at the show and from there made our plans to meet after the show to get in our designated area for the meet and greet.
As soon as the show was over, Melissa headed over to where we were standing during the show. We then proceed to the balcony area with the rest of the meet and greeters. Brian came over and put everyone in rows according to our passes. Vitamin Water, RCA, fan club, etc... He was businesslike, but also very polite to everyone. He asked several times if anyone had any questions and if anyone needed a camera to take a picture. A couple of people had their batteries die on their cameras, so he told them how they could get a picture emailed to them. He even smiled a few times at us.
Brian then called the Vitamin Water people first, and while they were still standing in line he called up the RCA people. That was us. I was a bit nervous, but I had a Hurricane at our dinner that night. It was called "The Swampthing", so it was just calling out to me to try it. Leilani (Southernchic) told me that you only live once, so I listened to her. She is a bad influence on me.
This was before I knew about the meet & greet, so I figured it
didn't matter since I wasn't going to be embarrassing myself in front of Kelly anyway. Once I learned about the meet & greet, I took a nerve pill
when Kelly's set started and another one when it was over. So, I was kind of relaxed when I met her.
I heard a couple of people saying, "Oh, she's so cute," and such so I realized that she was in sight somewhere. I got up on one of the balcony seats so I could see her. I said, "It's Kelly!!" My heart started pounding almost out of my chest as soon as I saw her. I heard her telling one person, "I'm not that cool...no believe me...I'm not." Melissa let me get ahead of her, so I was ready for my turn. When the person in front of me went ahead, Brian took my camera and got it ready. I don't know why, but I told him "Brian...you do such a good job." I touched his arm even. He said, "Thank you, but I'm just average." I thought he was really, really nice. Then it was my turn.
Brian hands my camera to Tim. I start walking over to Kelly, and my first thought was that I wanted to cry. She was real, and she was standing in front of me. She so sweetly said, "Hi...how are you? I'm Kelly, what's your name?" as she gave me a hug. I said, "Swampmom." Not Claire, but Swampmom. She had this look come over her face, and she said, "From the Express? Oh, I've seen your name on there." She then talked about the Express a bit and said how she comes here all the time to read what's going on. Tim said, "Picture?" so I knew it was time to move on. We took our picture, but before I left I asked if I could have another hug. She said, "Of course, of course you can." As she hugged me, I said, "I love you so much, Kelly. Please take care of yourself." She said, "Oh, I will." A woman standing off to the side holding my purse, Trisha maybe?, said, "We'll take good care of her, don't worry." Then Kelly said, "No, they do...they really do."
The one thing I was going to tell her was to make sure she leaves her hands away from her mouth because of germs and that's how she can get sick...but I guess telling her I love her is better in the long run. It was over very quickly, but I remember it vividly. It's an experience I'll never forget as long as I live. Or until I get demented or something. She was just so cute and so tiny. When I had my arm around her waist, she felt like this little bitty thing.
Melissa, I love ya, girl.
I'm so grateful to you for
giving me the opportunity to meet Kelly. You have no idea how much it means to me. I'm glad you got to officially meet her. Airport meetings
aside. Your gift was awesome, btw.
Thanks to Abby for fixing the red eye in our picture.
I still can't believe I got to actually meet Kelly. Jen has been wanting me to meet her forever and was so disappointed for me everytime I got rejected. I would always tell her that it didn't matter, and that I didn't have to meet Kelly. But, it meant more to me than I admitted, even to myself. I could have just stood there and looked at Kelly and been happy. But having her talk to me and get two hugs from her was incredible. I'm just one of many of fans that have loved her and supported for the past 5 years, but it was a true gift to me to be able to meet her in the flesh.
I'll have a review of sorts of the show itself with some pics and video a little later.
